Sit in easy pose with the legs crossed and the spine straight. Press the shoulders back slightly and bring the chin in slightly, suspending the breath in the chest, felt in the area of the heart chakra (between the bottom of the sternum and top of the ribs below the nape of the neck).

Place the hands on the knees and inhale deeply, filling the lower part of the lungs with a focused intention that pushes the lower part of the diaphragm out against the abdominal muscles. Simultaneously, put an inward and downward pressure with the hands against the knees. This will lift the rib cage, resulting in the downward flow of the inhalation to entirely fill the lungs, from the bottom to the middle to the top, using only the diaphragm.

When the (each) breath is complete, come into jalandara bhand (neck lock), pressing the shoulders back, bring the chin in slightly (which increases the resonance of the sound in the spine and cranium), keeping the head straight (not bent forwards or back), and suspend the breath all along the diaphragm and forwards in the chest (opening the chakras).

Then, chant "Ek (Ik) Ong Kar" in one long complete breath. With the sound of "Ik," pull the lips wide and pull the Mul Bhand (root lock), bringing the awareness from the Muladara (lowest chakra) to the Kandal (between the naval and 4th vertebra). Then relaxing the root lock, continue the sound of "Ong" giving way to "Kar" (like "car"), which sounds are chanted equally with the remaining of the breath and vibrated from the Kandal.

Pause for a moment, then…

Inhale deeply (see above), suspend the breath and chant "Sat Nam Siri" in one long complete breath. With the sound of "Sat" (as in "ahh" versus "cat"), pull the root lock and bring the awareness to the heart. Then relax the root lock and chant the sound Naam in one long breath with the "aaa" very long and "mmm" very short," vibrating the sound from the heart. When the breath is almost entirely expelled, chant the short sound of "siri," where with the "ri sound (may be a slightly higher pitch), again, the root lock and, this time, diaphragm lock (uddyana bhand) are pulled up - "siiii-ri." With the sound "Siri" bring the awareness to the Ajna chakra, the point slightly above and between the eyebrows.

Quickly, without a pause, take a quick half breath and chant "Wha!" pulling up the root lock and expelling most of the breath. With the sound of "Wha!" bring the awareness from the ajna chakra to the Sahasrara - crown chakra. Then releasing the root lock finish the chant with "he Guru" - "hey" is 3 times longer than "Gu" and "Ru" is 3 time or more longer than "Gu" as the balance of the breath is expelled. With the sound "he Guru" release the sound through the 10th Gate at the crown and into the magnetic field and Akasha (ether of space).

Pause for a moment to let the sound of silence merge the mind into the pure soundless sound of your True Pervasive Being.

Then inhale deeply again and continue.

Chant for 5 minutes or 11 minutes, 31 minutes 62 minutes, 2.5 hours. With continued practice, especially after some Kundalini Yoga exercises that charge up the nervous system and convert the body into an amplifier of sound, the mind will begin to attune itself to the surat shabad (Spirit Sound Current - Sound of the Celestial Spheres), as the centers of the brain begin to open and related glands secrete.

With the secretion of these glands, the infinite cosmic energy in the ether of space in which the universe appears will begin to flow into and fill the body with light, just as a jar floating on the ocean, when the lid is opened becomes one with the ocean.

And the body / mind will be transformed into That.

EK ONG KAR ... SAT NAM SIRI ... WHAHE GURU ...
There is one Creator, who has created this creation, Truth is His Name, Great, beyond the mind's ability to comprehend, is His Wisdom.

Oh my ears you were meant to hear
only the truth, for this reason
Where you given to a man that he might hear the Word,
Which having heard, the mind and the body blossom forth
And the tongue is rung with its flavor
The Lord is wondrous and unfathomable
His Name none can tell, sayeth Nanak.
Oh, hear the nectar Name and become pure,
For the truth is what you were created to hear.
The Lord placed the soul in the body's cave
and the air held the music of life.
And He gave each one 9 Gates
with the Tenth remaining well hidden
And the Tenth door is opened to him
who truly loves the Guru's Wisdom.
Oh, hear the nectar Name and become pure,
For the truth is what you were created to hear.

TEACHER TRAINING NOTEBOOK
EK ONG KAR SAT NAM SIRI WHAHE GURU
By Yogi Bhajan, Ph.D.

After meditating at the Lotus Feet of my Master, who has granted me liberation from the time cycle and the cycle of Karma, oh my sweet student teacher of the day, I disclose to you the secret of the Nam. If you care to listen to me this day and will practice you will be liberated like me.

I have seen the god. It is light equal to millions and billions of rays of sunlight. It is the cosmic energy which is the brightest of the brightest and most beautiful of the beautiful. Nothing beyond this can be said. It is the greatest of the great. When the Master, through his blessing blesses you, you will realize this within you.

Out of the 4 Yugs (Ages) which the scriptures described, one was Sat Yug - the Age of truth or Golden Age. Then came Treta Yug, when the truth was ? full and it was the Silver age. After this came Doapar Yug, when the truth was ? revealed. Thereafter came the Kali Yug when the truth is ?. This Yug is known as the Dark Age - Age of Steel or Machine Age. The duration of each is respectively 1,728,000, 1,296,000, 864,000 and 432,000 human years, a ratio of 4, 3, 2, 1. This ratio is found to prevail in many sacred computations. These 4 Yugs together make 4,320,000 Earth years of what is called a Maha Yug or Great Age. In sat Yug, the Age of Innocence or Truth, man was one with the Divine and he realized the vibration which this Cosmic Energy created to make Prakriti (manifestation) and man meditated on the Nam "ONG" - the vibration of the Divine. After this came Treta Yug when the power of the truth came to ? , the being became weak and he recited the Nam "Sohang". Through this vibration he acknowledged his identity with the Divine which means "I am you". Thereafter came the Doapar Age when truth was weakened to ? and man recited "ONG NAMO NARAYANA"; he worshiped the God in the form. We are now in the Steel Age - Age of Machine which is represented by a circle, which is the wheel runs it. Constant vibrations from that wheel of Cosmic energy give the power of life movement to this wheel of creation. Now my dear sweet love, you draw one circle like the wheel and put another circle like a wheel over it (wheel over wheel) will make the figure 8 which according to the Science of Numerology represents Infinity turned sideways.

Spermatozoa take 8 circles around the egg before union takes place. There are 26 bones supporting the human foundation, that is the foot and there are 26 vertebras in your spinal column: 2+6=8. Therefore, said the Master, "Whosoever in this Machine Age will meditate and recite the Mantra which will be the glory to the Lord and will have 8 vibrations, will open the lock of ignorance and darkness and this will liberate the being and will unite him with the Divine."
